Female entrepreneurship

Women and entrepreneurship are two concepts that go hand in hand in many business projects in Spain.

Female entrepreneurship is increasing more and more, as the State approves more grants and subsidies, which facilitate the difficult beginnings of any business.

In order to achieve maximum parity in any professional sector, general aid to professional entrepreneurs is complemented by initiatives specifically aimed at women.

Grants and subsidies for women entrepreneurs

The outlook for women entrepreneurs in Spain is increasingly favorable. Although there is still a long way to go, there are currently numerous grants and subsidies that can be used to promote any type of business.

The following are some of the most noteworthy grants and subsidies:

Flat rate for self-employed workers.

The flat rate for self-employed workers reduces the fee for these professionals to 80 euros per month during the first 12 months of activity.

In some provinces, such as Madrid or Andalusia, this aid has been reinforced with the so-called “zero rate for new self-employed workers”, which covers 100% of the contribution for the first 12 months and is maintained for a further 12 months if the net income is below the SMI (Minimum Interprofessional Wage).

It should be noted that currently in Spain the flat rate (and even the zero rate) is also granted to those women who have ceased their professional activity due to birth or adoption and who decide to resume it at some point during the two years immediately following the cessation.

Women’s Entrepreneurial Support Program (PAEM)

The so-called Business Support Program for Women or PAEM has been promoted by the Women’s Institute and the Spanish Chamber of Commerce.

It is designed as a business counseling initiative for women who want to give shape to a business idea or for those entrepreneurs who are looking to modernize their company.

This counseling includes business orientation, support in the development of an entrepreneurial strategy, self-diagnosis of the project’s viability, information on microcredit financing options, regular information and options to participate in a cooperation forum for entrepreneurs, among other advantages.

Within the framework of the PAEM program, the option of obtaining microfinancing is one of the most interesting services.

This credit for women entrepreneurs can be up to 25,000 euros, is offered with advantageous conditions compared to other loans and does not require third party guarantees to be granted.

Other aid for women entrepreneurs

Grants for women entrepreneurs continue to increase and adapt to the new needs of these professionals.

Some of the most important subsidies and grants currently available are the following:

  • Support for obtaining guarantees: with a bonus of up to 800 euros per project offered by the Women’s Institute.
  • Rural women challenge program: with the support of the European Social Fund and promoted by the Women’s Institute, for the entrepreneurship and consolidation of companies of women living in rural areas.
  • Innovatia 8.3: program of advice and assistance in the creation of a business project, including feasibility analysis and other services, to facilitate the creation of a successful company.
  • Autonomous aid for entrepreneurship: general subsidies for entrepreneurs, with different characteristics depending on the Autonomous Community responsible for granting them. In order to know in detail these aids, it is advisable to visit the official website that each Autonomous Community has developed for this purpose or the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, where detailed information on all of them is offered, differentiating the options for each region.
