Personal Branding: Your CV matters
Your CV is the first opportunity you will have to make a good impression on the recruiter/manager of the selection process and will make the difference for the next step which will be the personal interview for the position you are looking for.
It is therefore very important to take care of both the content and the form to express your knowledge, skills, (experience), motivations, and the added value you can bring.
If you want to be successful in your job search, we recommend you to follow the following key points (tips):
- Short and clear (concise): it should read quickly, have a clear structure and we can see at a glance the most important key points. You can use key words, without repeating the same information and highlighting what you consider to be your greatest skills. Use simple language without including many technical terms. Ideally, do not exceed two pages in length.
- Structure: divide your CV into several categories so that the information is orderly and easy to locate: personal information and contact details, education and qualifications, work experience, personal skills, motivations…
- Adapt your CV to the offer/position/company. Not all processes are the same nor are the same requirements requested, so it is very important to adjust your CV to the requirements of the offer or the target company. If, for example, a high level of another language is required, it is advisable to send your CV in the language that is needed.
Highlight your strengths and most relevant experience mentioned in the offer; and do not send the same CV massively in all processes.
- Attractive and visual. Take care of the presentation and try to make a difference without neglecting the content. It is useless to have a very creative CV if the information is not well detailed or does not fit the position we aspire to. Although it is not mandatory, adding a photograph will help us to empathize and it will be easier to be remembered. Choose one that is professional and shows us in a natural way.
- Work experience: it is essential to follow a chronological order. Although there is no correct formula, it is a good idea to order it in such a way that the most recent experience has greater visibility and the evolution of the functions and positions you have held can be seen.
Detail the position you have held, the name of the company, the dates you have worked and a brief description of the functions you performed. If you have any achievements that may be relevant, add them.
